GOVT TOLD TO PRIORITIZE YOUTH SKILLS

By Wilson Mulinda –
The Zambian Empowerment Hub for Entrepreneurship and Skills Training (ZEHEST) has appealed to government to prioritise youth skills for economic development.

ZEHEST Executive Director CLARENCE MUZYAMBA has also praised President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA for leading the call for the active participation of young people in Zambia’s economic reconstruction and development.

Mr. MUZYAMBA says ZEHEST is of the view that government must actualize its commitment to ensure youths are equipped with skills such as carpentry, tailoring, bricklaying, agriculture and metal fabrication among others.

In a statement to ZNBC News, Mr MUZYAMBA said his organization is delighted to receive the call for youth empowerment coming from the Head of State, and noted the sustained mobilization and call for active participation of youth by the Ministry of Youth, Sp
rt and Arts.

He has called on government to release more funding to projects that will generate skills among young people, because they are the majority in the country.

Mr. MUZYAMBA said government should take deliberate efforts in ensuring that persons with disabilities are given priority.

He said once equipped with appropriate skills, youth unemployment will be a thing of the past.

Mr. MUZYAMBA said the country has invested more in university education and not practical skills, hence the high number of people who depend on government for Jobs.
