GOVT TO RE-POSITION NATURAL RESOURCE SECTOR

Government has made steps to reposition the Natural Resource Sector.

Tourism Minister RODNEY SIKUMBA says this is through the development of a Policy in Community Resources Board -CRB- and Community-Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM) that will harmonize the management of resources in Zambia.

Speaking when he opened the 2021 National CBNRM Conference, Mr SIKUMBA said the policy only awaits ratification and its enactment will address the numerous threats to natural resources such as encroachment in Game Management Areas.

Mr SIKUMBA said government will endeavor to work on all possible areas in order to create an enabling environment for all the players in the management of natural resources.

And Mr SIKUMBA informed communities and stakeholders that the submitted Statutory Instrument -SI- on the revised sharing mechanism will be vigorously followed up for it to be enacted.

And Chairperson the Zambia CBNRM forum RODGERS LUBILO called for the devolution of ownership and rights to local communities.

Meanwhile, CRB Association president GEORGE TEMBO said the CBNRM and SI are the two documents that will bind the relationship between Government and Communities.
