Govt Releases K27m for C/belt Social Cash Transfer

Mushota Mpundu-Government has released over K27m to clear two months outstanding arrears for beneficiaries under the Social Cash Transfer on the Copperbelt.

Copperbelt Permanent Secretary AUGUSTINE KASONGO says the beneficiaries are both vulnerable and people living with various disabilities.

And Mr. KASONGO says the UPND administration has doubled the advance payment of social cash transfer.

He says the removal of the subsidies has propelled the increase of transfer value from K300 to K600 and K400 to K800.

Mr. KASONGO was speaking in Kitwe’s Buchi Township when he witnessed the cash payment to senior citizens and people living with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the Copperbelt Permanent Secretary said the Ministry of Community Development and social services will now start paying the money via mobile network unlike using pay point managers.

He said this is to promote accountability, adding that the project will be rolled out under the governance of Smart Zambia.

And speaking at the same event, Copperbelt Provincial Social Welfare Officer CHRIS HILWELA thanked the Government saying the funds have helped to eradicate poverty at household level.

Meanwhile some beneficiaries spoken to by ZNBC News thanked the Government for the timely release of funds.
