Govt Reforms get international attention-Haimbe

(ZANIS) Justice Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE says governance reforms that the government has put in place are being recognized and appreciated by both the citizens and the international community.

Mr. HAIMBE says that Zambia’s invitation to join the open government partnership is based on the recent passing of the Access to information Act of 2023 and the approval of the national policy on Anti-Corruption by cabinet in 2023.

He has reiterated the government’s commitment to being accountable and transparent in the governance of public affairs.

The Minister was speaking when he gave a keynote speech during the high level meeting on   Open Government Partnership -OGP in Lusaka.

And Secretary to Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA said there is a need for close collaboration between civil society and governments that are championing Open Government Partnership.

Meanwhile, Chandler Foundation Chief Executive Officer TIM HANSTAD said his organization is looking forward to partnering with governments that are making steady progress in democratic governance adding that Zambia is one of them.

Mr. HANSTAD said the foundation emphasizes good governance, sound policies, vibrant marketplaces, and fair play as keys to building opportunities for all.
