Govt committed to eliminate child labor

Patricia Banda-Acting Labour Minister PETER KAPALA says Government will continue to put measures in place that will eliminate child labour in the country.

Mr KAPALA says Child Labour is detrimental to a child’s development and that research shows it is rampant in rural areas.

He says Government recognizes the numerous factors that need to be addressed with the most pertinent being poverty.

Mr KAPALA has urged parent and guardians to take advantage of free education by Government and take their children to school.

He said this in a speech read for him by Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Labour ZAKALIA LUHANGA on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour.

And International Labour Organization -ILO- Country Director GEORGE OKUTHO has urged member states to scale up efforts that will eliminate child Labour by 2025.

Zambia Federation of Employers representative KENNEDY NJAMBA said no Child should be allowed to be employed in industries.

Zambia Congress of Trade Union -ZCTU- Trustee TISA CHIPONDA said Child Labour violates Children’s rights.
