Information and Media Minister CHUSHI KASANDA says Government will continue to create a conducive environment for the media to thrive and operate.

Ms. KASANDA says this will be done through implementation of policies that support a safe and conducive environment for the media to operate and disseminate information to the public.

She further says Government has made progress in the enactment of the Access to Information Bill and other policies that speak to the 2023 World Press Freedom theme of , ” Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom Of Expression As A Driver For All Other Human Rights.”

Ms. KASANDA who is also Chief Government Spokesperson said this when she officially opened the three-day second Africa Media Convention in Lusaka.

Speaking at the same event, African Union Director for information and Communication LESLIE RICHER said currently, the African media landscape is a mixed picture of progress while others still face challenges due to legislations that affect democracy and good governance.

And Southern African Editors Forum Chairperson WILLIE MPONDA commended the Zambian Government for formulating   media reforms and policies that create a favourable environment for the media to operate.

Mr. MPONDA noted that this is why the second Africa Media convention is being held in Zambia which has recently seen an increase in the opening of radio stations and newspapers.
