GOVT APPRECIATES MEDIA-KASANDA

BY PATRICIA BANDA

Information and Media Minister CHUSHI KASANDA says government values the role of the media in promoting democracy and good governance in Zambia.

Ms. KASANDA says government will always support all efforts that support the development of media, as part of its commitment to a united and democratic Zambia in which freedoms of speech and the press are upheld.

The Minister is however concerned that some media houses are not reporting the truth.

Ms. KASANDA was speaking at the SIDA International Training Program-ITP- Africa Media Development in a Democratic framework Zambia Media forum in Lusaka today.

She has thanked the Swedish Government for financial support it has rendered to the training program as part of developing the media self -regulatory mechanism.

And National Facilitator International Training Programme OLIVER KANENE explained that Africa Media Development is happy that Government has shown committment to media freedom in Zambia.

Meanwhile, International Training Program fellow JANE CHIRWA and her counterpart JUBIEL ZULU have submitted to the Minister that stakeholders in the media would like to come up with a Media Development hub aimed at promoting professionalism and knowledge.
