Godfrey Ngwenya brace guides ten-man Power Dynamos to victory as Kabwe Warriors end Forest Rangers’ unbeaten run

A brace from Godfrey Ngwenya was enough to secure maximum points for ten-man Power Dynamos who ended a 3 match winless run to move into the top four thanks to a 2-1 win over Sensational Zanaco.

Godfrey Ngwenya put Powerful Power Dynamos in the lead in the 23rd minute heading in a beautiful cross from Spencer Sautu after Zachariah Chilongoshi had started a move from his half beating three players before giving Sautu the ball.

Five minutes later Sautu drove to the edge of the box before releasing a powerful shot but Racha Kola was not going to be beaten from that far out as he made a brilliant save.

Zanaco had a chance to equalize in the 35th minute after a beautiful interchange of passes between Rodger Kola and Moses Phiri to put Boyd Musonda through on goal only for him to shoot wide.

Ngwenya had a chance to double the lead in the 37th minute after a good cut back by Zachariah Chilongoshi but the midfielder ballooned his effort. Power Dynamos thought they had doubled the lead but Alex Ng’onga somehow failed to connect with a good ball from Sautu needing only the smallest of touches to turn into a goal.

Zanaco finally leveled matters at the death of the first half, Moses Phiri notching home from close range to score his eighth goal of the season.

Power Dynamos came back from the break determined to regain their lead and Alex Ng’onga drove into the box just after the restart but a last-ditch tackle from Zanaco made sure the match stayed level.

Chiboni was next to get a chance in the 59th minute as a beautiful ball from Spencer Sautu found him unmarked in the box but he ballooned his effort.

Zanaco started coming into the game and Abraham Siankombo tried his luck in the 61st minute after beating several players but his effort flew miles above Kakunta’s goal.

Kennedy Musonda who was introduced at the start of the second half drove into the box and was brought down by Kelvin Owusu in the 69th minute the referee pointed to the spot, Godfrey Ngwenya stepped up and sent Racha Kola the wrong way, 2-1.

Power Dynamos were reduced to ten men after Sautu was given a second yellow card and given marching orders. The Perry Mutapa tutored outfit however held on to win the match 2-1.

Sensational Zanaco assistant coach Henry Banda felt his team put in a good shift despite the loss.

“We came here to win but we did not have them, we trained well and planned for it but unfortunately we lost 2-1. In terms of performance, the players did well, This is water under the bridge we just need to focus on our next game we playing against Kabwe Warriors,” He told the ZamFoot Crew.

His counterpart Perry Mutapa believes his team still has a lot of work to do in finishing despite the win.

“We have won the game but we still have a lot of work to do in terms of scoring, We could have been 3-0 up at half time, Kondwani had a good chance in the second half, Godfrey ( Ngwenya) could have had a hat-trick but he did not do that, We have won we happy but we still have a lot of work to do in terms of finishing,” Mutapa said.

In Kabwe, Mathews Nkowani scored a late goal to secure a 2-1 win for the Magnificent People’s team who ended Forest Rangers’ unbeaten run.

Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba put Warriors in the lead in the 36th minute while Quadri Kola drew Tenant Chilumba’s men level in the 62nd minute before Nkhowani could steal the limelight with a 90th-minute strike.
