General Simbeye Interred

By Paul Shalala

Former Zambia Army Commander NOBBIE SIMBEYE has been put to rest at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka.

General SIMBEYE, who served as Army Commander from 1991 to 1997, died at the age of 75 and was given full military honours as he was laid to rest.

Zambia Army Commander SITALI ALIBUZWI led hundreds of former Generals, former service chiefs and friends who gave a befitting send off to their fallen comrade.

And in his homily, Reverend ROYD SIAME of the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) said General SIMBEYE’s patriotism was tested when he thwarted the 1997 military coup.

Meanwhile, General SIMBEYE’s eldest grandson MANASSEH SAKALA described him as a loving man.
