Freedom of expression registers positive outlook

Freedom of expression in ZAMBIA has registered a positive outlook according to the 2023 FOX Report- ZAMBIA, launched in LUSAKA today.

The report is annually produced by the Media Institute of Southern Africa -MISA ZAMBIA, Chapter One Foundation, Open Spaces ZAMBIA, ZAMBIA National Women’s Lobby and other civil society organisations.

Presenting the findings of the 2023 Fox Report-ZAMBIA, Media Expert FREEBORN KIBOMBWE said from 63 percent of Civil Society Organisations, respondents submitted that freedom of expression has improved in ZAMBIA, whilst 37 percent had contrary view during the period under review.

Dr. KIBOMBWE who is also CAVENDISH University Lecturer also revealed that 39 percent of journalists in 2023 as opposed to 33 percent in 2022 submitted that Freedom of expression has a positive outlook.

And Open Spaces ZAMBIA Chief of Party TELDAH MAWARIRE said freedom of expression is one of the Rights that must be upheld.

Meanwhile, MISA ZAMBIA Chairperson LORRAINE MWANZA praised government for presenting the Access to Information Bill in the National Assembly.
