FRA URGED TO EXPEDITE PAYMENTS TO FARMERS

By Ruth Chayinda

Agriculture Minister, MTOLO PHIRI has urged the Food Reserve Agency -FRA- to expedite payment of farmers that supplied maize to the Agency.

This follows the release of the remaining 667 million kwacha by government to FRA for the 2020/2021 marketing season.

Mr PHIRI says FRA will on Monday distribute the monies to the banks so that the farmers can access their money.

He, however, says the 667 million kwacha will be paid to the farmers that supplied their maize to FRA after the agency met its target of 500 thousand metric tonnes.

The Minister, who was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News, also thanked President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and the Finance Minister for finding money to pay the farmers.

He said the country has enough maize grain despite Governments move to allow the exportation of maize to neighbouring countries.
