Former Zambia Army Commander dies

Former Zambia Army Commander NOBBY SIMBEYE has died.

General SIMBEYE passed on at the Maina Soko Medical Center this morning after a short illness.

And Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General SITALI ALIBUZWI is saddened over the passing of the late Commander.

Lieutenant General ALIBUZWI has described the late SIMBEYE as a refined and hardworking career soldier, who was instrumental in establishing the Zambia Defence Service Command and staff College.

He says it was during General SIMBEYE’s reign that the Zambia Army’s participation in the United Nations peace keeping mission was introduced.

General ALIBUZWI has since conveyed a message of condolence to the family on behalf of the Army.

Gen. SIMBEYE, who was appointed Army Commander on November 27, 1991, leaves behind a wife, children and grand children.
