Football is back: Charity Shield comes alive as ZESCO United battle Lusaka Dynamos

The Zambia Football season will officially open today with the annual curtain-raiser the Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield set to take center stage this afternoon.

Defending MTN Super League Champions, Zesco United will square off with ABSA Cup Champions, Lusaka Dynamos in what is expected to be a very entertaining affair.

Coach Numba Mumamba will be looking to test some of the new players out but will be without Dickson Chapa who is away on national duty and Peter Maker Manyang whose paperwork is yet to be ready.

“It’s good that we have this game to play because they are certain players that we need to assess in this game so that we see how ready they are as we also prepare for the CAF game,” Mumamba said.

“The league has become very competitive, there are no minors in the league now and it is difficult for any team to say they are going to win the league.”

“We are ready for Lusaka Dynamos and we are looking forward to a very good game tomorrow,” he added.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Dynamos assistant coach Manchi Janza is confident his team will carry the day.

“We are going in full throttle forgetting about the past results. I still believe that they are going to come with a variety of tactics but we are ready to absorb whatever punches which may come and I believe we are going to carry the day,” Janza said.

The Atlas Mara sponsored, Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndholovu Charity Shield match will kick off at 15:00 at Woodlands Stadium and will be live on Supersport.
