FIVE FILE-IN FOR KABWATA BY-ELECTION

Five candidates vying for the Kabwata by-election have so far successfully filed-in their nominations.

Among the political parties that have successfully filed-in are, the Economic Equity Party, Peoples Alliance for Change, United Progressive Party, Patriotic Front and Socialist Party.

Other parties expected to file-in their nominations this afternoon are the UPND, RAINBOW Party, Patriotic for Economic Progress and an Independent.

And speaking shortly after successfully filing in his nomination papers, People’s Alliance for Change PAC candidate SYDNEY ZYAMBO said he will prioritize the needs of all citizens in his constituency especially women and the youth when he is elected into office because they are the majority.

The Kabwata seat fell vacant after UPND’s Levy Mkandawire died in a road traffic accident in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, United Progressive Party UPP candidate FRANCIS LIBANDA said he will serve the people of Kabwata diligently when voted into office.

And Patriotic Front Candidate CLEMENT TEMBO said the PF is coming back as a re-branded party that wants to serve the people in Kabwata.

Socialist Party Candidate, TRIPHER NGA’NDU has also filed in for the socialist party.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party’s aspiring candidate, FRED MUBANGA has failed to file in his nomination papers to contest the Kabwata parliamentary seat.

DP Spokesperson MWANAWINA KWIBISA said the move to stop their candidate from filing in is unjustifiable and a threat to democracy.

But District Electoral Officer ALEX MWANSA said the Democratic Party can still fill in their nomination today after the court gives guidance on who should represent the party.

He explained that the faction groups both wanted to file in their candidates which is not allowed when the both coming from the same party name.

The nomination is still ongoing.
