First Lady donates to Kabwe autism center

By ZANIS-First Lady, MUTINTA HICHILEMA, has donated food hampers to Caleb Autism Center in Kabwe District as part of the 2022 New Year celebrations.

And Mrs HICHILEMA says myths surrounding autism are adversely affecting the well-being and development of autistic children.

She says the myths rob the autistic children of the opportunity to share normal life to participate and enjoy the fundamental tenets of growing, learning, playing and development like other children.

Mrs HICHILEMA observed that despite the advances in medicine, a lot remains unknown about the condition though research has continued.

The First Lady said this in a speech read on her behalf by Central Province Minister, CREDO NANJUWA, when he handed over the food hampers at Caleb Centre today.

Meanwhile, Caleb Autism Center Director, NELLIE LUULU, said the center has 57 students and 356 online parents.

And one of the parents, ROSEMARY KABANDA, has called on the government to consider putting the center on a grant.
