FAZ SUSPENDS BUSA PLAYERS FOR ATTACKING MATCH OFFICIALS

By Wilson Mulinda

The Football Association of Zambia FAZ has provisionally suspended Bauleni Sports Academy General Secretary FRED KANGWA and three players pending investigations.

This follows the scenes of violence at the close of the Week 31 FAZ Women Super League match between Bauleni United Sports Academy (BUS) and Green Eagles Football Club.

FAZ Acting General Secretary IVA LENGWE says the association has also suspended players GERTRUDE MFUMBA, SHEILA NAMUZUNGU and GRACE PHIRI, all of the same team.

LENGWE says the quartet’s actions are in breach of the FAZ Disciplinary Code and have been suspended for attacking match officials in the aftermath of Green Eagles’ 2-1 win over BUSA at Crested Crane Stadium.

In a statement, LENGWE said the BUSA FC players, and the General Secretary acting with other unknown aggressors, physically attacked the centre referee, the assistant referee and the Green Eagles media officer after the match ended.

This is according to a statement issued by FAZ Communications Manager SYDNEY MUNGALA.
