FAZ, Clubs at odds over kick-off date of new Women’s Super League season

The start of the 2022 FAZ Women’s National League is in disarray after a disagreement between FAZ and the clubs on the kick-off date.

The second-ever season of the Women’s Elite Competition has been proposed to kick off next weekend by the Association but clubs are not taking kindly to the ambush.

According to ZamFoot Crew sources, the clubs are asking for at least a month to prepare and put everything in order before a new season can kick-off.

“As clubs, we are not yet ready, players are on holiday and we have not resumed training. How can we start the league next week from nowhere ? ” a source said.

“The fixture is not yet even out so how do we plan? For a proper preseason teams need six weeks but a month can at least be understandable not less than two weeks, that’s not acceptable,” the source added.

Another source told the ZamFoot Crew that the teams also want a meeting with FAZ to know what they are playing for and a way forward for the league.

“You can’t just start a league without proper planning and consultation with the stakeholders who are us the clubs. What are we playing for? We don’t even know, a meeting is cardinal for us to plan the way forward.”

Green Buffaloes won the inaugural FAZ Women’s National League and will be looking to defend the title as they will again go into the season as favorites.

The new season will now have 18 teams after Solwezi Academy Queens, Prison Leopards Queens, Green Eagles, and Chipata Girls won promotion at the playoffs held in Lusaka last August.
