Fashion Sakala scores to help Glasgow Rangers earn a point at Celtic

Chipolopolo striker Fashion Sakala scored his first ‘old firm derby’ goal as Rangers came from behind to earn a deserved 1-1 draw at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

With Celtic carrying a commanding seven points lead at the league table summit, Rangers knew that losing this tie would essentially hand the title to their arch rivals with three games to play.

In a match of two halves, Celtic dominated the first half and got the deserved lead in the 21st minute when Jota finished a Daizen cross from close range.

Into the second half, Rangers took charge of the match with Sakala the main threat.

In the 67th minute, Sakala produced a moment of magic when picked the ball on edge of the box before turning and firing a low left shooted effort passed Joe Hart into the back of the net.

Sakala’s equaliser got Rangers back into the game, and he also hit the post late on to be denied what would have been a magnificent winner.

The Chipata native finished the game with six shots, two of which were on target, as well as contesting more duels than anyone else on the pitch and winning the ball five times.

The goal scored is Sakala’s 11th goal of the season across all competitions.

Next for Rangers is a massive UEFA Europa League Semi-Final 2nd-Leg encounter against RB Leipzig, who they trail by a goal on Thursday.
