Expert urges govt to invest in agriculture centers

The University of Zambia -UNZA- has advised Government to invest in agriculture centers in all the 10- Provinces because there is growing interest among people to engage in agricultural activities.

UNZA Dean School of Humanities JACOB MALUNGO says the country needs to invest in agriculture to attain sustainable development.

The Dean, who is also Professor of Demography, says investment in agriculture is important because the current food production will not meet the growing number of consumers.

Professor MALUNGO says Zambia’s population growth which is at 3.4% per year does not tally with the economic growth of the country.

He says the rapid increase means government has more people to feed.

He adds that Zambia has one of highest population growth in the world and needs to plan for effective delivery of services.

Professor MALUNGO said this in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.
