Europa Cup Final: Fashion Sakala, Roofe or Aribo who will lead Rangers against Frankfurt
FC Rangers have been boosted by the availability of forward Kemar Roofe ahead of this evening’s UEFA Europa League final.
Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed yesterday during the pre-match press conference that the Jamaican forward is fit and available to play.
Roofe, who hasn’t featured since last month’s Old Firm Scottish Cup semi-final, is part of the Rangers squad that traveled to Spain and will take to the field against Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium tonight.
“Kemar is available. He trained for the first time with us yesterday and he had some individual training before that and he trained also tonight,” he said.
“So he will be in the squad and if I want to use him, he is ready. Of course, it is a boost for us. He got injured a couple of weeks ago when he was in a good spell and he was very important for the team.
“I am happy he is back as he was working hard to be ready for the Leipzig game – he didn’t make it so we have extended it for him to be ready for the final and he is there and he is also ready, of course, to play a part in tomorrow’s game.”
Van Bronckhorst will now have to decide on who will start upfront with Kemar, Joe Aribo and Fashion Sakala Jnr all available to him.
Sakala Jnr was rested on Saturday in preparation for today’s UEFA Europa league final at Seville’s Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
With Alfredo Morelos out injured and Kemar just making his return the Zambian international and Joe Aribo team up to lead the attack for the Light Blues.
The duo has netted 20 times and assisted 17 more in all competitions between them this season so far.
This will be Rangers’ fifth European final, following appearances in the Cup Winners’ Cup finals in 1961, 1967 and 1972 and, most recently, the UEFA Cup final in 2008.
The Light Blues, of course, beat Dinamo Moscow at the Camp Nou in 1972, thanks to two goals from Willie Johnston and one from Colin Stein.
Kick off is set at 21:00hrs.
