Establish National Scientific Botanical Research Institute – ZIMBA

A Plant Scientist has called on Government to expedite the process of establishing the National Scientific Botanical Research Institute in the country.

NOAH ZIMBA says there is need to set up the facility to provide scientific research and knowledge to people who are involved in nursery garden businesses and the country at large.

Mr. ZIMBA has told ZNBC News in an interview that the absence of scientific botanical institute has created a knowledge gap between those in the tree and plant seedlings and botanists.

He noted that the absence of scientific knowledge on plant and tree species may lead to the introduction of alien species that may cause damage to biodiversity and ecosystem.

Mr. ZIMBA said the direction Zambia has taken to champion for a green environment requires setting up of various green institutions such as botanicals for specialised scientific research on tree and plant species.
