Equestrian National Team returns home

Chansa Kunda-The Victorious Equestrian National Team has arrived back home from Algeria after minting gold in the children’s category.

Zambia won gold at the just ended Africa Nations Cup hosted by the Algerian Federation in Oran in the children’s event beating six other countries to the top prize.

And speaking when receiving the team at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this morning, Ministry of Sport, Director JOHN ZULU said the team’s performance has brought honour to the country.

ZULU said the Ministry will closely work with the Zambian Equestrian Federation -ZANEF- in growing the sport and ensuring it gets enough visibility.

He has further commended the Federation for the strides made to prepare the team for the competition.

And ZANEF-President JOHN PATON said the federation is happy to have produced African Champions in the children’s category.

PATON has however lamented that there is need to grow the number of Horse riders as the country only has over 1-hundred compared to other countries that have hit the thousand mark.

And Zambian Equestrian Team Coach ZARA NICOLLE said following the teams’ display in Algeria, there is need to invest in grooming more young athletes.

NICOLLE said the team’s target is to ensure Zambia defends the title in two years.
