EQUESTRIAN ATHLETE ENCOURAGES YOUTHS

By Chansa Kunda:

Equestrian Athlete Gabriella Shamambo has called on the  Zambian youths to take up horse riding as an active sport so that it can grow among the locals.

Shamambo, who is an upcoming horse rider, says they is currently low participation among indigenous Zambians in the sport which is not good of a statistic for the sport development.

She says Equestrian has potential to grow in the country but continues to lag behind in the local set up owing to the perception that it’s a sport for the elite .

Shamambo said despite the sport being challenging in it’s first stages many can adapt so that they can become professional athletes.

She further said her aim to become a professional show jumper so that she can represent Zambia at international events.

And Show Jumper Megan Lillie told ZNBC Sports News that her target is to qualify for the 2024 Olympic games .

Lillie  club said representing Zambia at the level will be high degree of honor she can give to the country .

The athletes were speaking to ZNBC Sports News from the Lusaka gymkhana club  ahead of the 2022 season that is expected to commence in March.
