EL GUARANTEES FRIENDLY BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT

President Edgar Lungu says government will continue to revise policies to ensure the country’s business atmosphere is friendly.President Lungu says development initiatives, strategies and programmes such as economic diplomacy must take center stage in order to achieve sustainable development and prosperity for all.He says for this reason government is desirous to see an inclusive growth that cuts across gender, social economic status, ethnicity, race and religious orientation.Speaking at the First National Economic Summit organised by the Economics Association of Zambia – EAZ in Livingstone, President Lungu said although the path to economic growth has its own challenges, the obstacles to attaining economic sustainable development are not insurmountable.And President Lungu says government has put in place measures to grow and diversify the energy sector to enhance its contribution to economic diversification.President Lungu said the goal is to ensure universal access to clean, safe reliable and affordable energy at the lowest cost, consistent with national development aspirations.He assured the nation that government remains resolute to addressing the electricity challenges currently being experienced considering the energy deficit.President Lungu said he is aware that many people in Zambia and Africa in general need to have access to electricity to improve their lives and contribute to economic development.And President Lungu has directed the Minister of Finance to work with the Economic Association of Zambia to ensure that all economists in the country affiliate to the association.He says this will help bring sanity in the profession.Speaking at the same event Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta urged African countries to complement each other for the continent’s economy to grow.President Kenyatta says the objectives and aspirations of the African continent can only be achieved by practically implementing common visions and aspirations.He says he is encouraged by the Zambian government’s determination to promote inclusive growth.Earlier, EAZ President Lubinda Habaazoka also praised the government for its determination to end poverty and promote gender equality in the country.Dr. Habaazoka further commended the government for the move taken to restore sanity at Konkola Copper Mine.He has however urged the government to continue investing in the energy sector to address the energy deficit the country is facing.
