Edward Chilufya on his Midtjylland debut: Perfect evening

There was plenty to look forward to Friday night at the MCH Arena. In addition to the victory in the long-awaited local showdown against Viborg, FC Midtjylland’s offensive new acquisition Edward Chilufya made his debut.

The 22-year-old Zambian quickly showed proof of his speed and dribbling skills when he in his very first action at the stadium in Herning fixed Mads Lauritsen off before he was put down by the Viborg stopper, who received his second yellow card for the offense.

“It was great to make my debut at home. The way the fans welcomed me made it even better, and with a win it ended up being a perfect evening, Edward Chilufya smiles on Monday after the squad’s training session,” the Kasama native said

“The atmosphere at the stadium was incredibly good. I could feel that it was a local showdown and I look forward to seeing the fans continue in the same style,” the offensive player adds.

Edward ‘Tiger’ Chilufya

Since arriving in Central Jutland at the end of January, Chilufya has been working hard on his physical condition on top of a backlog from an injury, Corona infection and fighting break, since the Allsvenskan ended in early December.

“My form is getting better with each passing day and I have noticed great progress. I work hard every single day on the training ground to hit my top form. It was great to play my first minutes, and now I just have to build more,” says the fast winger, who also goes by the nickname ‘Chili’.

Feeling comfortable in the club

Edward Chilufya switched to FCM from Djurgården, where he won the Swedish championship in 2019 and the cup tournament in 2018. Especially in his last two seasons, he was a profile in Swedish football.

Now the wing rocket is betting on doing the same in Denmark. His humble manner, however, shines through when asked about the personal ambitions for spring.

Edward Chilufya was part of the victorious 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Zambian team and FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic Quarter-finalists.

“I have to learn how the team plays, and my teammates have to get to know me. This is how it is when you come to a new club, and I am sure that my contribution will be bigger, the better I fit into the team, it sounds from Chilufya,” he added

“Of course I hope for more playing time so I can help the team, but I have to fight for my place. Right now, the most important thing is to seize the opportunity every time I get minutes and show up for training.

Edward Chilufya, who is listed for four A-national matches for Zambia, has settled in Herning and is in the process of finding his way outside the chalk lines.

“The first few weeks have been used to getting used to it all. It’s a new country for me, and I just have to get to know people and how things work in Denmark. That process is still going on, but it is going well and I feel comfortable in the club,” says ‘Chili’ and concludes:

“Everyone has received me really well and is good at helping me. I am very grateful for that.
