ECZ clarifies on the printing of ballot papers for by elections

By Arnold Tutu

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says ballot papers for the postponed Kabushi and Kwacha Parliamentary by elections have NOT been verified.

The Commission says this on account of the court matter.

ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager PATRICIA LUHANGA has told ZNBC in a statement that the ballot papers for the two constituencies have also NOT been dispatched to Ndola and Kitwe respectively.

Ms. LUHANGA however says the ballots were delivered in the country on Monday September 12, 2022 and verification for the Luangwa Council Chairperson by-election taking place today was conducted on Tuesday September 13, 2022 in Lusaka at the ECZ Headquarters.

She has assured all electoral stakeholders that ECZ is committed to delivering the electoral processes as mandated by law.

Ms. LUHANGA has further stated that the ballots were printed by Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing LLC following a contract signed in 2020 between the Dubai based company and the Commission for the period of two years.
