ECZ Advises Against Putting Polling Stations in Restricted Areas

The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- has advised stakeholders participating in delimitation sittings not to create polling stations in restricted premises.ECZ Geographic Information Systems Engineer Kedrick Sintufya said this during the official opening of delimitation sittings in Lufwanyama district.Mr. Sintufya clarified that creating polling stations in restricted premises like barracks, police camps or private buildings has potential to divulge people’s rights of secrecy in the electoral process. He said this has in the past caused speculations on which candidate individuals from such places vote for.Mr. Sintufya explained that it is with this background that the relocation of polling stations has also been included in this year’s delimitation exercise. He stated that Lufwanyama is likely to have an additional three new proposed wards, one constituency and the creation of more polling stations.
