Dorothy Mukatasha wins league title in Tanzania

Zambia’s female export to Tanzania Dorothy Mukatasha became the first Zambian woman Footballer to win a league championship in Africa (outside Zambia) after her team Simba Queens was crowned 2020/21 Serengeti Lite Women’s Premier League Champions in Tanzania.
Simba Queens trail brazed to the Tanzanian top-tier women’s league title with a historical 20-game unbeaten run.
Mukatasha who is nicknamed ‘Nature’ joined Simba Queens earlier this year in January after making a switch from ZESCO Ndola Girls on a 2-year deal and she made her League debut for Simba on January 19, 2021, in a 2-0 victory over Mlandizi Queens and 3 days later she registered her first goal for the coach Mussa Hassan Mgosi drilled lasses when they defeated Baobab Queens 3-1, coincidentally Baobab was their last opponents in the league over the past weekend in match week 20.
The Serengeti champions had to be decided on the last matchday and it was highly contested between Simba and their immediate rivals Yanga Princess with only a point separating these two sides going into the last match.
Simba took a trip from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma where they secured the championship with a remarkable and historical unbeaten run in all the league games after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Baobab Queens at Jahmuri Stadium courtesy of a second-half strike from Asha Djafar to collect maximum points and move up to 54 points, one better than closest rivals Yanga who defeated Alliance Girls 6-0 on the same day but this result was not good enough.
Simba successfully defended the championship and will represent Tanzania in the Inaugural CAF Women’s Club Champions League which will be preceded by the play-offs in the Zonal Qualifiers and this case CECAFA Region which will have the likes of Vhiga Queens from Kenya, Lady Doves from Uganda, PVP Buyenzi from Burundi and Ethiopia Nigid Bank amongst other teams with the other 6 spots from other countries still up for grabs waiting for the champions then later they will battle each other in July before the winner makes it to the Champions League to be hosted by Egypt later this year in November.
