DOMESTIC TOURISM STRATEGY LAUNCHED

Government has launched the Zambia Tourism Domestic Development Strategy aimed at implementing home-grown solutions to keep the sector afloat.

Speaking during the Launch Tourism Minister RODNEY SIKUMBA said promotion of domestic tourism has potential to grow and cushion the sector against declining international tourists travel.

Mr SIKUMBA said with the fourth wave of covid-19, the tourism sector has suffered external shocks hence the need to unify local efforts to harness and reinforce the role of domestic tourism.

He further said the strategy will seek to promote a culture of saving for holidays and support the growth of domestic tourism companies by streamlining the regulatory framework and negotiating incentives.

And Mr SIKUMBA said government has embarked on a programme to develop and upgrade enabling infrastructure such as access roads, airports and basic amenities to encourage domestic tourism.

The launch was held at the Lusaka National Museum and attended by Finance Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE, Information and Media Minister CHUSHI KASANDA, Infrastructure Housing and Urban Development Minister CHARLES MILUPI.

Others Ministers in attendance were, Green Economy and Environment COLLINS NZOVU and Small Scale and Medium Enterprises Minister ELIAS MUBANGA.
