DMMU HELPS CHIPATA STORM VICTIMS

The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU has provided assistance to households that were affected by the heavy storm in Chipata last Wednesday.

DMMU Regional Coordinator for Eastern Province, Mr. KALENGO MUMBA says 11 of the 25 households affected are in a critical state and includes a Cheshire facility which shelters 30 persons with disabilities.

Speaking to ZNBC News in an interview, Mr. MUMBA disclosed that DMMU assisted the affected households with various items such as roofing sheets.

He said other Non Governmental Organizations that support the Cheshire facility have also come on board to provide assistance.

Meanwhile, Mr. MUMBA noted that some of the affected structures were built with no regards to safety.

He has since advised citizens to adhere to safety standards when building houses.
