D-Day: Who joins the relegated trio?…As six battle for two CAF Confederation Cup slots

The curtain will this afternoon close on what has been a rollercoaster of a season. With the league title already sealed by ZESCO United, the attention is on the fourth relegation slot and the two CAF Confederation Cup slots.

For the relegation battle, one team will join Kitwe United, Lumwana Radiants and NAPSA Stars from the three still fighting to stay up in Nkana, Indeni, and Young Green Eagles.

Nkana sits in 15th place with 41 points and a negative eight-goal difference and needs to at least force a draw to have a chance at surviving relegation. Above them is Indeni also on 41 points but with a better goal difference and Young Green Eagles sit in 13th with 42 points.

The 2019/2020 Champions have a tricky encounter away at Woodlands Stadium against an already relegated NAPSA Stars side. A draw for Nkana provided Young Green eagles lose their game will keep Nkana in the Super League while a win will give them an even better advantage but their fate also depends on either Young Green Eagles or Indeni dropping points.

Indeni on the other hand travel to Kabwe to face CAF Confederation Cup chasing Kabwe Warriors who need a win to maintain their top-four slot.

Indeni was handed a big boost yesterday with the lifting of the ban on their coach Mwenya Chipepo. Tiki Chiluba has been very impressive for the Oilo Men and will be key in this afternoon’s fixture alongside Clement ‘Jakuzi’ Mulenga in the middle of the park.

For Warriors having missed out on Continental football on the final day of the 2019 transitional league, They will be hoping this is their chance to make a return to Continental football.

Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba, Prince Mumba, Mathews Nkhowani, and Lameck Siame will have to be at their best to send Kabwe Warriors into Continental.

Young Green Eagles on the other need just a win to stay up but they host Lusaka Dynamos who are keen on crashing into the top and playing Continental football.

The match has been moved to Choma’s Independence Stadium after the Khosa Stadium was banned by FAZ due to the club breaking multiple COVID-19 health guidelines.

For the CAF Confederation Cup slots, Red Arrows and Kabwe Warriors battle it out with Lusaka Dynamos, Green Eagles, Nkwazi, and Prison Leopards for the last two slots in Continental football.

Red Arrows are away to Sensational ZANACO at Sunset Stadium and need at least a draw to seal their spot while ZANACO is playing a formality match having already qualified for the CAF Champions League.

Kabwe Warriors on the other hand need a win to seal their spot in the CAF Confederation Cup but face a tricky encounter against relegation-threatened Indeni.

Lusaka Dynamos are away to Young Green Eagles, Forest Rangers and Nkwazi face each other, Green Eagles are away to relegated Lumwana Radiants whole Prison Leopards face Green Buffaloes at Nkoloma Stadium.

Champions ZESCO United will be crowned this afternoon after their match against Buildcon at an alternative home, Arthur Davies Stadium since their home ground, Levy Mwanawasa Stadium is not available today.
