CVRI CAN PRODUCE 60 MILLION DOSES OF NEW CASTLE VACCINE

(NAIS) The Central Veterinary Research Institute -CVRI- in Chilanga District says it has the capacity to produce 60 Million doses of New Castle Disease Vaccine per year.

Research Officer Songolo Mwikisa says the institute has acquired new equipment to increase local production of the vaccine from the current 20 Million doses.

Dr. Mwikisa has disclosed that the Central Veterinary Research Institute has partnered with Musika to commercialize the production of the new castle disease vaccine locally produced by Zambian scientists.

New Castle is a highly infectious and contagious disease in poultry and can cause mortality of up to 1-hundred percent in chickens.

He says one bottle of the locally produced vaccine costs only 40 kwacha and can cater for 3 Hundred chickens.

Dr. Mwikisa said this in an interview with the National Agricultural Information Services in Mitete district after demonstrating the application of the vaccine to farmers.
