COVID-19: VACCINATION CAMPAIGN EXTENDED

By Wilson Mulinda:

The Ministry of Health has extended by 5-days the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Acting Health Minister CHARLES MILUPI says the exercise will run until Monday May 30, 2022.

Mr. MILUPI says the extension has been necessitated by the overwhelming response from the public.

He says the extension also provides an opportunity for more people to get vaccinated.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. MILUPI said Government is committed to ensuring universal health coverage, adding that it is pleased with the positive response to the vaccination campaign.

He disclosed that over ONE million vaccinations were administered in the last 10 days.

Mr. MILUPI said the number of people that are fully vaccinated stands at 28-point 2 percent.

He noted that the milestone was made possible through efforts from various stakeholders like religious leaders, health workers, Non Governmental Organizations and traditional leaders.

Mr. MILUPI said Government also appreciates support from International partners, while encouraging families to get vaccinated.

He said the risk of another upsurge is high with the cold weather looming, but can be curbed if 70 percent of the population is vaccinated.
