COVID-19 : POSITIVITY RATE REDUCES TO 6 PERCENT

By Brian Malama

Government says the reducing trend in Covid-19 positivity currently at 6-percent is an indication that the country is on the right trajectory.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary – Technical Services Kennedy Malama says Lusaka, Copperbelt and Southern Provinces with high population are leading the way in positing low positivity, a further assuring feat in government’s response.

Dr. Malama has also urged the public not to relent and ensure compliance to the prescribed public health and social directives and measures.

He has however warned that people should not be swayed with a reduced positivity but continue with heightened preventive measures, disease intelligence and prompt and effective treatment.

Dr. Malama expressed happiness that the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases and reduced from 4-thousand 2-hundred and 22 the previous week to 3-thousand 7-hundred and 56 this week while deaths reduced from 1-hundred and 34 to 78 respectively.

And Dr. Malama says Zambia yesterday received 1-hundred thousand doses of Sinopharm vaccines donated by China.

He says Zambia’s key weapon in this fight remains voluntary vaccination as the more people get vaccinated at the earliest possible time, the better protected they will all be against any spikes or future waves.

Dr. Malama says vaccines such as AstraZeneca and Sinopharm require two doses and one should ensure that they get both doses while Johnson and Johnson requires one dose only.

And Dr. Malama says 3-hundred and 87 new confirmed COVID-19 cases out of 6-thousand 2-hundred and 24 tests and 10 new COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

This is contained in a statement availed to ZNBC News in Lusaka today.
