COUNCILS TOLD TO BE TOUGH ON WASTE MANAGEMENT

Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary MAAMBO HAMAUNDU has urged local authorities to enforce laws around waste management.

Mr. HAMAUNDU says lack of waste management is of concern to not only to the public but Government as well.

He says among the solutions that Government might consider to take in the process of solid waste management is engaging companies that will be recycling garbage.

The Permanent Secretary notes that currently the ministry is engaging with stakeholders on the matter.

Mr. HAMAUNDU has also expressed confidence that solid waste management company being set up by government will be operational before the end of the year.

In an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka, Mr. HAMAUNDU further called for change in mindset so that the country can remain green and clean.
