Cost of Fruits to Increase

By Ellen HambubaThe cost of fruits and potatoes imported from South Africa is expected to increase.This is on account of the 21 days lockdown measures imposed by that country admist the outbreak of the Corona Virus.The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection -JCTR says it also expects to see the price of locally produced goods to push upwards due to increase in demand.JCTR Deputy Director Alex Muyebe also adds that any restrictions on domestic travel may negatively affect the supply of goods and consequently prices.Father Muyebe has since reiterated the need for government to increase resource allocation and commitment to a more sustainable climate resilient and diversified Agriculture sector.He says this will significantly contribute to a more sustainable supply of some foods and help keep prices low.Father Muyebe has further called on government to come up with policies that will help to control the exchange rate volatility seeing how this has significant effects on businesses.This is contained in a statement sent to ZNBC by Father Muyebe in Lusaka today.
