Corruption fight must be within the law-HH
Sharon Kunda-President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says the fight against corruption must be done within the confines of the law.
President HICHILEMA says he has heard complaints from some sections of society that the fight against corruption is slow but has reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to fighting the scourge.
He says Government wants to ensure the rule of law as well as people’s liberties and freedom.
The Head of State said this when United Kingdom Minister for Africa VICKY FORD and her delegation called on him at state house in Lusaka.
President HICHILEMA said Government is committed to values that it shares with the United Kingdom such as the importance of sustaining democracy.
He said in collaboration with the British Government, Zambia wants to continue with its tradition of promoting the rule of law, human rights, constitutionalism and institutional strengthening.
And President HICHILEMA said the country’s stance on the Russia Ukraine war was a vote against war and forced migration of people and NOT a vote against a particular country.
He said the war has negatively impacted the world economy with food and oil prices recording an increase.
President HICHILEMA further said his Administration looks forward to more collaboration with the UK on the economic and investment front as Government needs to ensure that it maintains the social contract with the citizens.
And Ms. FORD said Zambia’s strong record for supporting democracy and peace was clearly demonstrated over its stance on the Russia Ukraine war.
She said the 7 million pound investment of UK support for girls’ education in Zambia which was announced by her predecessor has started bearing fruit with the opening of the first school providing 3 hundred and 25 places, half of them for girls in Muchinga
rovince.
Ms. FORD said the British Investment International, a UK development finance institution, has been launched in Zambia.
