Coronavirus: screen drivers properly,urges Bowman

By Ruth Chayinda- Lusaka Province Minister BOWMAN LUSAMBO has tasked authorities at the Chirundu border to provide certificates to truck drivers to show that they have screened for Coronavirus at the border.Mr. LUSAMBO have advised the Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA -to engage the clearing agents on the need to expedite payments of goods coming into the country to avoid congestion at the border.He says it is important that the clearing process is expedited so that there is smooth  flow of traffic to avoid the spread the coronavirus.Mr LUSAMBO said he will engage his counterpart in the ministry of transport to see how best congestion can be reduced at the border .Speaking when he toured Chirundu border post, Mr LUSAMBO who expressed satisfaction at the measures put in place at the border said he will put in place a roadblock at a strategic point to monitor whether the drivers coming from Chirundu have certification to show that the have been screened for the virus.He also cautioned the authorities to ensure that all travellers coming into the country are screened.The Minister said the travellers should also quarantine themselves for 14 days despite not showing signs of the Coronavirus.Mr. LUSAMBO noted that the measures put in place by the Ministry of Health should be strictly followed because the will enable the country to fight against the coronavirus.He also urged business entities to provide safety gear for their workers ranging from masks and gloves as the conduct their business.And the District Health Director MWILA LEMBALEMBA said health personnel in the district are on high alert and are carrying out the screening process on all travellers.Dr. LEMBALEMBA said the last two days over 800 travellers have been screened stating that there has been a reduction of traveler inflow following the closure of the border at the Zimbabwean side.He also disclosed that the district recorded two suspected cases but however came out negative for the virus.Meanwhile ZRA Assistant Commissioner LEVY SIMATIMBA said the officers are ready to ensure that all trucks passing through Zambia adhere to the guidelines and stay safeMr SIMATIMBA said the officers remain committed to ensuring that there is no congestion at the border and called on stakeholders to work with the authority to expedite the process.End.znbc.rmc.MN.sjk Post Views: 4
