Copper Queens clinch bronze at COSAFA

The Zambia Women National Team have clinched their fourth COSAFA Bronze Medal after they edged hosts South Africa 4-3 on post-penalties after battling to a 1-1 draw in a third and fourth place Play-Off match played at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.

The Copper Queens were also presented with the Fair Play Award, an Accolade reflecting their status as the best team in the tournament in terms of Fair Play.

Meanwhile, Copper Queens shot goal stopper Ngambo Petronella Musole won the Golden Glove Award after an excellent performance conceding only one goal in the competition which was an own goal from Defender Lushomo Mweemba against Tanzania in the semi-final.

It was a great outing for the Copper Queens at this year’s COSAFA Edition as they bagged 7 different awards which includes 4 Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match (Ochumba Lubanje, Margret Belemu, Grace Chanda, and Lushomo Mweemba), Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament (Ngambo Petronella Musole), Fair Play Award and also Bronze Medals.

The Coach Florence Chalesa Mwila drilled lasses will now shift their attention to the next assignment coming up in two weeks in the Morocco 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nation’s (AWCON) Qualifier match against Malawi over a two-legged affair.

Ochumba Oseke Lubanji put the Queens in the lead in the 20th minute heading in a Grace Chanda corner while Sibulele Cecilia Holweni leveled matters in the 75th minute.

In the shootouts, Patricia Lampi missed while Ochumba, Esther Namukwasa, Lushomo Mweemba, and Milika Limwaya scored for Zambia while Holweni and Cesane missed.
