By Chembe Mbale

Infrastructure Housing and Urban Development Minister CHARLES MILUPI says Government is conducting a feasibility study for the construction of Mumbezhi-Lukulu-Katunda road and a bridge to connect North-Western to Western Province.

Mr. MILUPI says a consultant has since been engaged for the two projects, with the bridge expected to be built first.

The Minister said this when he inspected the road in Lukulu district of western Province.

Mr. MILUPI said the road and a bridge across Kabompo River are of economic importance as they will not only connect the two provinces but will unlock other sectors of the economy such as mining among others.

He said road and bridge construction are critical infrastructure to improve communication and trade, hence the Government’s commitment to build the two infrastructure in all provinces.

Mr. MILUPI said building of the road and bridge will however reduce costs incurred when crossing the bridges.

And, LUKULU District Commissioner KELLY KAPAKU said residents in both Kabompo and LUKULU area rely on canoes and a pontoon in accessing either one of the areas which is costly.
