By Moombe Hamoboola

Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA is disappointed that the construction of 115 Secondary schools in Zambia has stalled.

Mr. SYAKALIMA has disclosed that the construction of some of the schools across the country has stalled for fifteen years.

The Minister was speaking today when he met Livingstone District Commissioner EUNICE NAWA and later toured Shuungu Namutitima Secondary School in the Tourist Capital.

He said on average every district in Zambia has a secondary school building whose construction is not completed.

Mr. SYAKALIMA observed that in some areas the prolonged delays to complete the construction of the education infrastructure has led to a number of girls getting pregnant because of the lack of schools near them.

He said the government will complete the construction of all the secondary school buildings in the country.

Mr. SYAKALIMA also said the government is discussing with mission grant-aided schools for them to reduce school fees.

And, Livingstone District Commissioner EUNICE NAWA said over fifty percent of the schools in the area have already received their grants from the government.

Ms. NAWA urged the Minister of Education to ensure that the construction of Shuungu Namutitima Secondary School in Livingstone is completed.
