Hundreds of passengers and truck drivers are stranded at Mokambo border in Mufulira after some Congolese nationals protested on the Congolese side of the entry point this morning.

This comes after the shooting to death of a Congolese suspected notorious criminal JOHN KAYOMBO by the Anti Robbery Squad after an exchange of fire in Olasho area of Mufurila two days ago.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner PEACEWELL MWEEMBA has told ZNBC news in Kitwe that KAYOMBO is suspected to have been behind a spate of robberies in Mufulira district in which Taxi drivers are booked and later attacked by criminals armed with unknown type of firearms.

And ZNBC’s TAMARA MUSWALA who rushed to the Border in Mufurila Reports that hundreds of motorists and other members of the public are stranded on the Zambian side after failing to cross into the DRC.

Mufulira District Commissioner SABOI KABIKA has assured the stranded passengers and truck drivers that the government is addressing the issue and that very soon the vehicles will start crossing into DRC.

Meanwhile Police say the DRC Consular General in Ndola has already been engaged to help resolve the matter as soon as possible.
