“COMMEMORATE INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY OF BROADCASTING”

The Independent Broadcasting Authority has called on all Broadcasting Stations to commemorate the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting -ICDB-, which falls on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

The event this year is being commemorated under the theme “End violence against children through safe media”.

IBA Director General JOSEPHINE MAPOMA says broadcasting stations should commemorate this day by producing and airing quality programming about and for children in line with the theme, and allow children to be a part of the programming process.

Ms. MAPOMA further says the involvement of children in broadcasting must not be a one-off event but go beyond ICDB in order to allow for diverse content.

She has also urged broadcasting stations to ensure the protection of children.

Ms. MAPOMA says the IBA Law has provided for the protection of the integrity of minors.

She has also called on all stations to play a role in promoting good mental health.

In a statement to ZNBC News, Ms MAPOMA said the Standard Operating Procedures for Broadcasting in Zambia require broadcasting stations to take reasonable steps to protect children by appropriate scheduling of programmes.

The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting -ICDB- was created by UNICEF in 1991 to encourage broadcasters worldwide to create awareness for children issues and allow children to be part of the programming and presentation process.
