CLEARING AGENT GETS 2 YEARS JAIL TIME FOR FORGING RECEIPT

The Livingstone Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced a Kazungula Customs Clearing Agent to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour for forgery and altering a false document.

Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- Acting Corporate Communications Manager OLIVER NZALA says MORTEN MOONO 33, was convicted yesterday for the offence of forgery and altering a Bridge Toll Fee Receipt.

Mr. NZALA says facts of the case are that on 3rd December in Kazungula, MOONO forged a ZRA Kazungula Bridge Toll Fee Receipt by purporting to show that it was genuinely issued by the authority when in fact not.

He says the forged document was presented to ZRA Customs officers to show that a truck had paid the 85-dollars Bridge Toll fee to enable it cross into Zambia when in fact not.

Mr. NZALA says customs officers reported MOONO to ZRA security after discovering that the receipt was not genuine.

This is contained in a statement availed to ZNBC News in Lusaka.
