Civic Leader Told to Promote HIV Testing

The Ministry of Health has engaged civic leaders  to promote voluntary testing for HIV.

Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO says there is a need for an aggressive program to encourage people to know their status through testing.

This is in order to address the new infections among young people aged between 15 and 35 years old which is alarming.

Ms. MASEBO attributed lack of information among major causes of new HIV infections in young people.

Speaking when she met the civic leaders at the Ministry of Health in Lusaka, Ms. MASEBO urged them to coordinate with District HIV/AIDS committees in the council and District Health Offices to heighten HIV/AIDS messages.

And Local Government Permanent Secretary Administration, MAAMBO HAAMAUNDU urged all stakeholders to get involved and ensure that young people get tested.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Mayor CHILANDO CHITANGALA said the increased infections among young people should be a concern for everyone.
