Chitotela Declares 11 sites National Monuments

By Wilson Mulinda-Tourism and Arts Minister Ronald Chitotela has declared 11 heritage sites as national monuments, bringing the total number of national monuments countrywide to 102.Among the sites declared are the Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kapiri Mposhi, Mukuku bridge in Samfya, Chinyunyu hotspring in Rufunsa, Mpezeni royal burial site in Chipata and Kabwe Mine museum in Kabwe.Others are Kavalamanja heritage site, Chipote Falls, Broken Hill Man site, Kalonga Gawa Undi Dole royal site, Longola Hotsprings and Tarbbitite Site.Speaking during a media briefing, Mr. Chitotela said the process of declaration is an ongoing exercise aimed at adding value to heritage sites as they are given a national significance.Mr. Chitotela said the national monument declaration is key as it positions sites for sustainable tourism utilization.He said the National Heritage Conservation Commission will be responsible for conserving and maintaining the newly declared national monuments.
