Chisi Mbewe to miss Airmen’s League coronation

Red Arrows will be without their head coach Chisi Mbewe when they take on Indeni FC in their final game of the season.

Mbewe who also doubles up as the Zambia U-15 national team head coach is in Tanzania for the continuation of his CAF A program.

Mbewe left for Tanzania on Sunday a day after watching his team lose the ABSA Cup final at the hands of NAPSA Stars.

Mbewe started his course last year in August when he traveled to Dar es Salaam in pursuit of a CAF A Coaching license to make him eligible to sit on the bench in CAF continental football.

In the absence of Chisi Mbewe, Goalkeeper coach Kalililo Kakonje will take charge of the Airmen against Indeni with the help of technical director, Oswald Mutapa.

Mbewe guided the Airmen to a third place finish in Super League last season to qualify for CAF inter-clubs competition after a nine-year wait.

A CAF A License, or its equivalent, is a compulsory requirement for all coaches managing clubs that are participating in CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup tournaments.

The Airmen have continued building on that trajectory as they won their first league title since 2004 to secure qualification to the CAF Champions League.
