Chipata in accommodation crisis

By Christopher Miti

Chipata District has been hit by an accommodation shortage as it hosts the 2024 Nc’wala traditional ceremony of the Ngoni people.

Most lodges are full while others have increased accommodation fees.

Hotel and Catering Association of Zambia Eastern Province treasurer TRINITY MWALE however says the situation is still manageable.

Ms. MWALE told ZNBC News that the association will be able to provide accommodation to all the local tourists and international tourists that are attending the ceremony.

And the National AIDS Council –NAC- said Chipata and the surrounding areas have received over 200,000 condoms for the ceremony.

Eastern Province AIDS Coordination Advisor EMMANUEL CHAMA said this is out of the required 600,000 pieces of condoms.

Mr. CHAMA said Districts AIDS Coordination advisors for Chipata, Katete and Kasenengwa have been invited to conduct awareness at the ceremony.
