CHINTALA calls for export of value added products

By Brian Mwale

The Millers Association of Zambia -MAZ- says government and stakeholders should strengthen the value addition policy to enhance export of finished products.

MAZ President ANDREW CHINTALA says exporting maize instead of value added products translates into exports of jobs and lessens revenue generation for the country.

Mr. CHINTALA says Zambia has in the past lost opportunities of exporting value added products to the DRC, Kenya, Tanzania and Sudan by opting to export maize instead of mealie meal and other products.

Appearing on ZNBC’s The Update Programme today, Mr. CHINTALA said his association will this year push for the rolling out of new mealie meal plants in rural parts of the country and not places like Lusaka which is already saturated.

Meanwhile Mr. CHINTALA said the interventions that government has put in place will assist in stabilising mealie meal prices on the market.

Yesterday, Agriculture Minister Reuben MTOLO announced that the food Reserve Agency will now be selling Maize to millers and not traders .
