Chilengi warns of Cholera cases spiking

By Chembe Mbale.

Special Advisor to the President on Health Professor ROMA CHILENGI has advised the country not to drop the guard against Cholera.

Prof. CHILENGI said this is because the country is still at a higher risk of recording another spike in cases owing to the fact that access to safe water, sanitation and human behaviour is still a challenge.

He said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has made it clear that he does not want to see a cholera outbreak again in the country, especially that he is a global champion of cholera control.

Prof CHILENGI was speaking in Kitwe when he called on Kitwe administrative offices.

AND Kitwe Administrative Officer MWAMBA MULENGA said efforts are being made to ensure that a multi sectoral approach is adopted to combat cholera.

Mr. MULENGA informed Prof. CHILENGI that Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company has been engaged to provide necessary support through a steady and consistent supply of water as well as improved sanitation in Ipusukilo .

Meanwhile,  Kitwe District Health Director, GEORGE MUKUPA disclosed that the district has seen an upsurge in cholera cases especially in Ipusukilo.

He said in the last 24 hours, the district has recorded 13 new suspected cholera cases and one brought in dead.
